New Zealand: I like that boulder… that is a nice boulder!

Everyone loves a Shrek reference…

On the way south to Dunedin we stopped off at a place we’d heard mentioned a few times but weren’t really sure what it was, called the Moeraki Boulders. It turned out to be pretty much what the name suggests: a collection of large boulders sitting on the beach in a place called Moeraki!

Apparently the boulders formed naturally in the hill next to the beach over millions of years and when the hillside eroded they spilled out onto the beach. Tourists have gradually taken all of the smaller boulders, so those left are just the largest but they have a really attractive look to them and are just quite a strange sight to behold!

The beach was littered with a strange rock-clay mix that felt hard to the touch but crumbled under pressure.

Just a quick post from us today, enjoy!
